Luftbild Kappeln an der Schlei erhielt 1842 den Status eines Fleckens | Kappeln erhielt 1842 den Status eines Fleckens, 1846 die uneingeschränkte Fleckengerechtigkeit und 1870 das Stadtrecht. Der Bau der Pontonbrücke 1867 und späterer Brücken (Drehbrücke 1927, Klappbrücke 2002) sicherte die Verbindung zwischen Angeln und Schwansen. Nach dem Ende des Marinestützpunkts Olpenitz 2006 wurde das Gelände zu einem Tourismusprojekt umgebaut, was die Entwicklung Kappelns als beliebtes Urlaubsziel weiter förderte.
